Betty Wilde-Biasiny

Mentor and full Professor, Arts and Media Department, School of Arts and Humanities. In addition to teaching a full complement of Studio Arts, my course areas include Art History, Museum/Curatorial Studies, and Digital Painting. Examples of individualized studies include African American Art History, Curatorial Practice, Community Arts Development, and Issues in Contemporary Art. Areas of professional practice include painting, printmaking, digital painting, and drawing. Career highlights include receiving the Pollock-Krasner grant for individual artists, a solo exhibition at SACI, Florence, Italy; and solo/group exhibitions throughout New York City.

My academic research focus is on "Building an Inclusive Curriculum Through Museum Studies" for which I document recent museum exhibitions and collections that focus on BIPOC artists whose work ranges from early twentieth century to mid-century abstraction to contemporary socially engaged, from which I develop new content for studio art, art history, and museum studies courses. Previous work in the field includes Associate Director/Editor positions at En Foco, Inc., that entailed building opportunities for Latinx and all multicultural photographers during the eighties through the nineties. As a museum curator at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, I was instrumental in the launch of the Artist in the Marketplace Program (AIM) and in formulating the museum collection's policy for Works on Paper by Artists of Color.

Travels to distinctive landscapes such as Isle de Groix and Cassis, France; Puerto Rico, and throughout Italy, have formed the basis for several bodies of work, usually in the form of paintings, watercolors, and prints. I was an intern to Robert Blackburn at his Printmaking Workshop, New York City; and have most recently combined watercolor with digital imaging to create a hybrid form.
