Mark Lewis

I am an Instructional Designer for the School for Graduate Studies and I am located at the Hudson Valley Center. I am also a Core Faculty Member and the online Community Manager for the Graduate Studies Master In Learning and Emerging Technologies (MALET). I have designed and taught undergraduate courses in Game Design and Game Design Engines including Unity, Digital Photography, Interactive Multimedia Design, Web Site Design, Adobe Flash Animation, Graphic Design & Desktop Publishing, and Technical Theatre Production. I have also taught graduate studies in Designing Online Learning Environments, and Games, Simulations and Learning.

I am interested in the application of games and meaningful play in education, game culture and game design, and games for social change. I have presented numerous times at the ESC Fall Academic Conference, ESC All College, CUNY Games Conference, SUNY Conference on Instruction and Technology, and the Online Learning Consortium Accelerate. Presentation topics included game design, accessibility issues and educational technology. I am a member of the International Game Developers Association and the Entertainment Consumers Association.

My previous technology related work experience includes website design and development, technology training, enterprise help desk support and instructional design and technology. I worked for many years in technical theatre lighting and set design in the New York metropolitan area and frequently incorporated photographs and digital images in my designs. I was a technical editor for four editions (CS3 to CS6) of Photoshop CS6: Essential Skills published by Focal Press. In addition I was a technical editor for The Adobe Photoshop Layers Book also published by Focal Press.

Some of the other activities I participate in when I have free time at home include playing games (video and tabletop), amateur/ham radio, high power rocketry, amateur astronomy and hiking on the Shawangunk Ridge, Catskills and Hudson Highlands. I am also the treasurer of the Sam's Point Search And Rescue team, and a member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL)Tripoli and the National Association of Rocketry (NAR).
